Little Richard ist am vergangenen Sonntag im Alter von 87 Jahren verstorben.

Der als Richard Wayne Penniman am 5. Dezember 1932 in Macon, GA geborene Sänger und Pianist zählte seit den 1950er Jahren zu den einflussreichsten Vertretern des Rock’n Roll. Er schrieb Ohrwürmer wie „Tutti Frutti“, „Long Tall Sally“, „Rip It Up“ und stürmte ausserdem mit „Lucille“ sowie „Good Golly Miss Molly“ die Charts.

Little Richard verhalf dem Rock’n’Roll zum Durchbruch und inspirierte unter anderem Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley und Jerry Lee Lewis.

Bruce Springsteen und Little Richard:

Am 20. Januar 1988 nahm Bruce Springsteen an der „3. Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Zeremonie“ im Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York teil. Der damals 38jährige hatte die grosse Ehre, die Einführungsrede für Bob Dylan zu halten.

Damals wurden nicht nur Bob Dylan, sondern auch die Beatles sowie die Beach Boys in die „Rock & Roll Hall of Fame“ aufgenommen. Ferner nahmen an diesem denkwürdigen Abend auch namhafte Künstler wie Ben E. King, Johnny Moore, Joe Blunt, Clyde Brown, Jeff Beck, George Harrison, Mick Jagger, John Fogerty, Billy Joel, Les Paul, Mary Wilson, Elton John, Arlo Guthrie, Yoko Ono, Ringo Starr, Peter Wolf, Neil Young, Paul Simon, Dave Edmunds, Jeff Lynne, Julian Lennon, Sean Lennon, Max Weinberg, Little Steven, Clarence Clemons, Patti Scialfa und Little Richard teil.

Ein Jahr später – am 18. Januar 1989 – traf Bruce Springsteen im New Yorker Waldorf Astoria abermals auf Little Richard. Anlässlich der Aufnahme von Dion, Otis Redding, The Rolling Stones, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder und Phil Spector jammte Springsteen mit diversen Künstlern Songs von Stevie Wonder, Phil Spector und den Rolling Stones.

Zu Frank Sinatras 80. Geburtstags Tribute-Konzert im „Shrine Auditorium“ in Los Angeles, CA am 19. November 1995 war nicht nur Little Richard, sondern auch Bruce Springsteen eingeladen. Während Little Richard „Old Black Magic“ zum Besten gab, performte Bruce Springsteen den Matt Dennis und Earl Brent Klassiker „Angel Eyes“.

Little Steven has opened the doors on his personal archive of recordings to present an in-depth look at his solo career with a brand new boxed set. RockNRoll Rebel – The Early Work (Wicked Cool/UMe) collects the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer’s solo work from 1973-1999 – including Artists United Against Apartheid’s landmark 1985 LP, Sun City – together with 51 bonus tracks spanning previously unreleased demos, B-sides, rehearsals, outtakes, classic concert performances, and a number of never-before-heard Steven Van Zandt compositions.

“It’s been a blast going through the archives and finding all these hidden gems,” says Van Zandt. “In addition to demos in various stages of completion, there are entire songs I’d completely forgotten about, and we found some really early things pre-Jukes like Southside Johnny and the Kid (the kid being me!). I’m excited for the fans to hear all of this stuff and to have my albums back on vinyl for the first time in decades!

Am vergangenen Mittwoch – 8. Mai 2019 – stellte Little Steven sein nagelneues Studioalbum „Summer of Sorcery“ im Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park, NJ vor.

Vor knapp 2.000 Zuschauern performte der E Street Gitarrist etliche Klassiker sowie zahlreiche Songs seines neuen Longplayers. Wie schon am 4. Mai 2019 im “Saban Theatre” in Los Angeles wurde er bei einigen Kompositionen von Bruce Springsteen unterstützt. Die beiden begeisterten die Fans erneut mit „10th Avenue Freeze-Out”, “Sun City” sowie “I Don’t Want To Go Home”.

„Sun City“ ist der Titelsong des gleichnamigen Albums aus dem Jahre 1985. Nachdem Little Steven im Jahre 1984 die E Street Band verlassen und „Voice of America“ veröffentlicht hatte, gründete er die Initiative „Artists United Against Apartheid“, welche sich gegen den Vergnügungspark „Sun City“ in Südafrika auflehnte.

Mit 50 international bekannten Künstlern nahm er den Song „Sun City“ auf und veröffentlichte ihn am 7. Dezember 1985 auf dem Studiowerk „Sun City“. Noch heute unvergessen ist sein Auftritt am 11. Juni 1988 beim „Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute Concert“ im Londoner Wembley Stadion. An der Seite von Jim Kerr (Simple Minds), Meat Loaf, Jackson Browne und anderen Künstlern performte er „Sun City“ live vor 100.000 Menschen.

Übrigens kündigte Bruce Springsteen vor wenigen Tagen eine neue E Street Band Tour samt Album an!

In einem exklusiven Interview mit dem Streamingdienst NETFLIX bestätigte der „Boss“, dass er vor einem Monat Songs für ein neues Album geschrieben hat. Zudem werde er mit der E Street Band wieder auf Tour gehen. Ferner gab er in besagtem Interview mit Starregisseur Martin Scorsese zu Protokoll, dass er sieben lange Jahre nichts für die Band schreiben konnte.

Springsteen sagte:

„I’ve spent about seven years without writing anything for the E Street Band. I couldn’t write anything for the band. And of course, you think you’ll never be able to do that again. It’s a trick every time you do it“.

Gestern Abend – am 4. Mai 2019 – war der 68jährige Künstler mit seinen „Disciples of Soul“ im 2.000 Zuschauer fassenden „Saban Theatre“ in Los Angeles, CA zu Gast. Anlässlich der Release Party seines aktuellen Longplayers „Summer of Sorcery“ spielte Little Steven eine umjubelte Show mit zahlreichen Hits und neuen Kompositionen.

Ganz überraschend kam Bruce Springsteen auf die Bühne, um mit Steven Van Zandt die Klassiker „10th Avenue Freeze-Out“, „Sun City“ sowie „I Don’t Want To Go Home“ zu performen.

Das neue Little Steven Album „Summer of Sorcery“ erschien am 3. Mai 2019 und umfasst 12 brandneue Tracks. Das Werk wurde mit Little Stevens Begleitband „Disciples of Soul“ in den „Renegade Studios“ aufgenommen und abgemischt.

‚Summer Of Sorcery‘, the follow up to the critically acclaimed ‚Soulfire‘ is SVZ’s first album of original material in 20 years. It was written during the second half of the ‚Soulfire‘ Tour and recorded at Stevie’s Renegade Studio September-November 2018. All 12 songs are original SVZ compositions, 1 recut from his Revolution Album, 1 outtake from the Lilyhammer Score, and 10 new songs. The album was recorded with the same members of The Disciples Of Soul that have been touring this past year. The album is a breakthrough artistically for Stevie in several ways, “My first five albums in the 80s were both very personal, and very political. I wanted the new material to be more fictionalized. The way records were when I grew up. Before it was an Artform. The concept (loosely) was capturing and communicating that first rush of Summer. The electricity of that feeling of unlimited possibilities. Of falling in love with the world for the first time. Obviously, there are occasional personal references, and a bit of what’s going on socially scattered throughout, but I achieved what I set out to do. I created a collection of fictional audio movie scenes that feel like Summer. I’m quite proud of it.”
