Light of Day 2021 – Bob’s Birthday Bash mit Joe Grushecky & Bruce Springsteen

Bob Benjamin – ein Musiker und Manager aus New Jersey – erkrankte im Jahre 1996 an Parkinson. Zwei Jahre später entschloss sich Benjamin, mit Freunden eine Stiftung ins Leben zu rufen und Spendengelder für Betroffene und Angehörige einzusammeln.

Im November 2000 fand im legendären „Stone Pony“ in Asbury Park, NJ das erste „Light of Day Festival“ statt. Unter anderem spielten ortsansässige Bands sowie Joe Grushecky & the Houserockers. Bruce Springsteen kündigte sein Kommen an und sorgte dafür, dass das Festival ein grosser Erfolg wurde.

In den Jahren 2001 und 2002 zog es die Show ins inzwischen abgerissene „Tradewinds“ nach Sea Bright, NJ. Doch schon ein Jahr später siedelte das „Light of Day Festival“ wieder nach Asbury Park, NJ um.

Seit 2004 unterstützt die „Light of Day“ Stiftung unter anderem folgende gemeinnützige Organisationen:

Im Jahr 2021 steigt das Hauptevent – „Bob’s Birthday Bash“ – am 13. Februar 2021. Wegen der anhaltenden COVID-19 Pandemie rangen sich die Veranstalter dazu durch, das Fest auf drei Tage auszudehnen und Online Shows auf Facebook und/oder YouTube zu präsentieren, die in den vergangenen Jahren aufgezeichnet wurden.

Bruce Springsteen ist ebenfalls mit von der Partie. Am 13. Februar 2021 hat man die Möglichkeit, das Joe Grushecky & The Houserockers Konzert vom 18. Januar 2020 mitzuverfolgen. Damals kam Bruce Springsteen im „Paramount Theater“ auf die Bühne, um mit Joe Grushecky elf Songs zu performen. Darüber hinaus wird auch das Little Steven & The Disciples of Soul Konzert im Liverpooler Cavern Club aus dem Jahre 2017 zu sehen sein.

The Light of Day Foundation has announced that Joe Grushecky and The House Rockers with special guest Bruce Springsteen will perform on February 13 as part of Winter Love Fest 2021, which takes places this weekend from February 12-14. They have also added Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul to the lineup which will mark Van Zandt’s first performance for Light of Day. The Kid’s Rock show on Sunday, February 14, will feature Rock & Roll Hall of Famers Steve Van Zandt, Eddie Brigati from the Rascals, and Ricky Byrd from Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, performing with RockIt Academy.

The 3-day virtual festival’s goal is to utilize the power of music to raise money and awareness in its continuing battle to defeat Parkinson’s disease and its related illnesses ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) and PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy) within our lifetime. The annual Asbury Park, NJ-based festival will be online this year, streaming live on Facebook and YouTube, where viewers are encouraged to donate while enjoying the show.

With more than 12 hours of streaming shows over three days, the event will feature performances from over 70 artists including Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Willie Nile, Jesse Malin, James Maddock, Dramarama, Steve Forbert, Jill Hennessy, The Weeklings, Jeffrey Gaines, Low Cut Connie, Ed “Kingfish“ Manion, Bruce Tunkel, John Eddie, Williams Honor, Ben Arnold, Adam Ezra, Joe Rapolla, and Brian Dunne among others, with more acts to be added. Light of Day is also encouraging artists to produce their own livestreams on their own platforms, which will be promoted by LOD throughout the day on Saturday, Feb. 13.
